The real reason I did my first 200h training.

Lauren having some yoga playtime with her kids in their lounge room.

I took my first 200h training it was to see if I could find a natural way to heal my body and improve my mood. I was cranky and tired, a lot.

And yes, people will tell you “that’s normal” if you have 3 kids and are working full time, but it’s not normal.

We have made it common in this work hard, play hard society but it shouldn’t be normal.

On the flight home from New York after the training, I felt so good in my body, I knew I didn’t want to go back to being in pain. I also wanted to share this new found happiness I had from moving better.

The yoga classes started in my lounge room after school drop off. Some mum’s would come over and we’d do a yoga class and have tea afterwards. The ingredients were simple, connection to the breath, to movement and to each other - Tuesday mornings quickly became my new favourite. A friend who lived in the next town asked if I would also teach some classes up there in Bellagio.

Within a few months I had regular classes in the town hall, the dance room at the gym and the old library in Bellagio! It turns out people actually do want to feel better in their own bodies and moving well is the best way to do that!

When we were taking applications for our teacher training a lot of people said “But I don’t think I want to be a yoga teacher” - I didn’t either, I tell them, and yet here we are.

During our YTT last year, many people said they weren’t actually thinking of teaching, it was more to feel better in themselves, a very good reason to do something like this.

These same people went on to share with their families, friends and communities in a way that felt good to them!!

Lauren: Does movement and deep relaxations with her kids and she led a little yoga class with some other parents when they went on a school families camping trip.

Mel: Combines deep relaxation and sound healing for magical events.

Douk: Has started leading monthly men’s circles and “Broga” classes for men in studio.

Each of these people are how to feel better in a way that feels authentic to them! Which is what this journey is all about.

Oh and our kids like being around a happier calmer mum too!
