The Marou Meditation
Project
Because peace is needed now more than ever
What is The Marou Meditation Project
Inspired by our friends at the World Peace Flame and Be Here Nowra, the Marou Meditation Project is a community-led experiment exploring how meditation can support greater peace and happiness — not just for individuals, but for an entire suburb.
Our goal is to increase the sense of peace, happiness and well-being of the collective, through meditation.
What is Meditation?
Vedic Meditation is a simple, natural technique that anyone can learn. Practised regularly, it helps calm the nervous system, clear the mind, and bring more balance to daily life, so you can meet life’s demands with greater ease and resilience.
Through experienced guidance, group support and practical sessions, you’ll finish the course confident in your own daily meditation practice. The aim is self-sufficiency: a grounded, reliable technique you can use for life.
What are the benefits of meditation?
Meditators experience a wide range of benefits. Some are noticed straight away, while others unfold naturally with regular practice. Commonly reported changes include more stable energy, deeper sleep, greater adaptability under stress, clearer self-regulation, increased creativity, and an overall lift in wellbeing.
Research also shows that consistent meditation can slow biological ageing and reduce the risk of age-related disease, supporting long-term health as well as day-to-day ease.
How can I learn to meditate?
Courses are taught by Vedic Meditation Initiator Maddy Gray Courses are run over four sessions of 60 to 120 minutes each on consecutive days. We have mid-week and weekend courses available. We teach out of our studio location at Maroubra beach
Meditation
Sit in a comfortable position. Relax your body and focus on your breath for a few moments, allowing the natural rhythm of your breathing to bring a deep sense of relaxation to you.
Begin to think of a situation of conflict or unrest and construct a picture of it at heart level in front of you. The situation could be with someone you love or perhaps of something that is happening in the world.
Once this picture has formed, imagine you are breathing in a golden light from a space above the crown of your head. Breathe this light down through the crown and into your heart. As you breathe out send this light from the heat towards the picture in front of you.
Continue this for several breathes. Breathing in and drawing a golden glow through the crown to the heart, breathing out and sending this light towards the picture in front of you.
As the light touches the people or places involved, see the pain and suffering begin to dissolve and peace gradually take its place.
Watch smiles and relief coming onto the faces of the people in your picture.
When you feel the transformation is complete, allow the image in front of you to fade, take your awareness to the golden glow which has built up around the heart and simply rest in silence.
