What is the Marou Meditation Project ?

The Marou Meditation Project is a community-led experiment exploring how meditation can support greater peace and happiness — not just for individuals, but for an entire suburb.

Our goal is to increase the sense of happiness and well-being of the collective, through meditation.

What is Meditation?

Marou Meditation is a simple, natural technique that anyone can learn.

Practised regularly, it helps calm the nervous system, clear the mind, and bring more balance to daily life.

Through experienced guidance, group support and practical sessions, you’ll finish the course confident in your own daily meditation practice.

The aim is self-sufficiency: a grounded, reliable technique you can use for life.

Research also shows that consistent meditation can slow biological ageing and reduce the risk of age-related disease, supporting long-term health as well as day-to-day ease.

How can I learn to meditate?

Courses are taught by Vedic Meditation Initiator Maddy Gray.

They are run over four sessions of 60 to 120 minutes each on consecutive days. We have mid-week and weekend courses available. We teach out of our studio location at Maroubra beach

The Marou ‘Do Less’ Meditation

Sit in a comfortable position.

1

Soften the neck & shoulders and relax your body.

2

Close the eyes and bring your awareness to your breath for a few moments, allowing the natural rhythm of your breathing to slow everything down.

3

Gently start to repeat the settling sound, ah-hum, in the mind.

4

When thoughts come or your hear sounds outside, gently return to the mantra ‘ah-hum’.

5

Repeat easily and effortlessly and if at any point the mantra starts to slip away, do less & just let go.

6

After 15 minutes, let go of the mantra and keep the eyes closed for 2 more minutes.

7

Gently open the eyes and continue with your day
